I watched this movie a few months ago and Suzi leant me this to read. I was pretty excited to read it because I really enjoyed the movie. The book and movie were different enough to keep me reading. The book is about a group of friends of different sizes and backgrounds with their birthdays in common. The friends love eachother like only high school friends can. They discover a pair of jeans that fit each of them perfectly. They decided that it was the magic in the pants that let them fit each of the girls the same. They wrote out some rules and shared the pants. They would be spending their first summer apart. The pants spent some time in Greece with Lena, in Baja with Bee, in South Carolina with Carmen and back at home in D.C with Tibby. When the girls wore the jeans they felt different. Like their friends were there with them, giving them confidence. The pants see the girls through the heartache and joys of high school summers. I remember being sixteen. When I was sixteen everything that happend to me was so significant and dramatic. For that reason I liked the book. But I didn’t like each of the girls equally. My favorite story line was the most gut wrentching one, the one with Tibby. She meets a twelve year old girl who is dying of leukemia. Bailey is so wise beyond her years that she makes everyone feel like being a better person when they meet her. I would have been okay with the book just being about those two and their unlikely friendship. This book was a nice light read and it was fun. I would also recommend the movie.
