Hosseini does a remarkable job of bringing the hardships of war to life. I was seriously impressed with his ability to write authentic women. I appreciated the honesty, even when dealing with brutality, and how the author stills ends on a note of hope. I would have liked to have see a broader picture of the effects of continued conflict on the country and more insight into the motivations of the supporting characters.

i enjoyed this novel more than I did The Kite Runner. But only because I found it not as disturbing. Oh it’s still disturbing but it’s really not as bad as The Kite Runner. I love reading Hosseini’s novels because he is such a good story teller. I get sucked in and often surprised. It wasn’t a novel that I could predict what would happen, which I loved.
