I loved this book. I loved it as a study of the free market vs government intervention, and also for the examples it provides on how individuals can be the greatest factor in a strong economy. It makes you wonder when the mentality of spending economic problems away and printing the value of the dollar to zero will end. If you want a better understanding of how America ended up with it’s current economic policy (and why it’s not working) this is a great place to start.

Dear Ms Clarissa and Ms Cindi,
Thank you very much for the reference. When I wrote the book the story of FDR’s game with the dollar wasn’t relevant, but now it is.
The idea that an executive can just fool with the value of money is disconcerting.
Sincerely,
Amity Shlaes
